PopHighlights: Hip Hop Dancing, Long Distance Relationship and Card Flourishing

My oh my is Youtube a treasure trove of talents just waiting to be discovered- beneathe all that chart topping korean bubblegum pop music and frenzied teenage fanboy/girl chatter, lies a wealth of brilliant videos made by the creatively restless inhabitants of lion city. PopConversation looks at 3 locally produced works that will make you want to boogie, believe in true love and take on a new hobby.

1) Freekzy Nutz - Get Down Witchu'

The video starts with a really good looking guy entering a carpark with his big speaker in hand. The clip quickly cuts to a bespectacled lad revving his Sabaru as if he were preparing to run over aforementioned dashing Austronesian; thank god that wasn't the case for then we wouldn't have had the dance number that followed.

Freekzy Nutz - Get Down Witchu' has nabbed over 5,000 views and 116 likes (as of 27 January) 2 days after its upload. It ranks number 5 in the daily most liked video charts and we are sure that the dance video performed, filmed and produced by these talented youths will be a sizeable hit amongst the local Youtube audiences.

2) Long Distance Relationship 5983 Miles Apart by Madayforshort

Long Distance Relationship 5983 Miles Apart (LDRS 5983 Miles Apart) is the most popular short film in the month of January- reaching 1,000,000 views 11 short days since its upload on the 17th of January this year.

LDRS 5983 Miles Apart chronicles a Singaporean boy's (Mahathir) long distance love affair with a girl (Camilia) living in Sweden. Mahathir's heartfelt narrative (which can be read in full in the description box below the video) adds a layer of depth and emotion to the montage of clips depicting the time the couple spent together upon their long awaited meet up after a year of confiding in each other over the internet.

The reception for LDRS 5983 Miles Apart has been unprecedented and it has prompted Mahathir to create 2 follow up videos explaining in greater detail his story and also another clip which precedes this viral hit. If love is a truly universal language, PopConversation predicts that LDRS 5983 Miles Apart will reach across the local shores and capture the hearts of the global audience; who's to say that Mahathir's story won't be the most watched locally produced Youtube video of all time.

3) Cardistry by Jaspas

We didn't know much about cardistry until we watched Youtuber and expert card flourisher Jaspas's showcase of some of the most nimble fingered card tricks and flips; after which, it still looked really complicated to us.

Jaspas Deck- Cardistry: Epicity is a visual treat to behold- thanks to the clever use of slo motion that gives audiences a dramatic look at how each of the flourishes work. Some of the clips with the playing cards flying through the air at a quarter of its original speed is spectacular; big props to the guy who shot and edited the video! This video on our list was one of Jaspas's more popular (and earlier) works, check out his channel for newer clips where he flourishes cards to Skrillex and dubstep.
