COOP3RDRUMM3R (real name Casey Cooper) is a 20 year old university student and drummer from the United States - he is able to skillfully transpose many genres of music (from dubstep to classical rock, pop to Christian praise) into some of the fastest and most skillful beats. Being a fan of Skrillex myself, I gravitate towards his covers of dubstep and electronic dance music and I personally find them to be the most impressive - it's not just because I like those tracks more - it's also because when Casey jams to Skrillex, he does so at a breakneck speed.
Casey Cooper prides himself on being a flexible and versatile performer - he believes that this trait is essential if one wishes to be a successful musician - to date, the Atlanta-based percussionist has performed in many different gigs, from comedy shows, rock shows, churches, to marching bands - he has also recorded a great variety of music.
Show me his Highlights!
If I had to pick out 3 of Casey's most entertaining musical showcases, they would be as follows:
1) Good Feeling - Drum Cover - Flo Rida
I can confidently say that after having watch this video (and many others for that matter), I'm pretty certain that Casey is one of the faster, if not the fastest, drummers I've ever seen - when Flo Rida's rap portion kicked in, my eyes could hardly keep up with Casey's arms - they were all over the place, independently hitting the drums, cymbals and hi hats at different tempo - it's almost as if his limbs had a mind of their own. Then there's the drumstick spinning - great stuff!
2) Set Fire To Everybody - Drum Cover - Adele vs. Skrillex (ca7's Mashup)
Casey once challenged an octopus to a drumming match, that night, he had calamari for dinner. Inter-species musical showdown aside, Casey is immensely entertaining to watch - as evident from this performance that sees him putting his own take on a Youtube viral hit, Set Fire to Everybody - a mashup between 2 of the biggest musicians of 2011, Adele and Skrillex.
3) Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites Cover - 1080p HD (COOP3R COV3RS)
Casey's refreshing collaboration with fellow musicians Erica Schiller and Wesley Bruner in this delightful reimagination of Skrillex's biggest dubstep hit, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, is one of the most popular videos on his channel (garnering 1,109,570 views as of 10 March 2012).
This performance substantial reception was due in part to it's timely release in February during the period of the Grammys - interest for Skrillex and his music peaked when the dubstep artist won 3 Grammys - it was also a victory for Casey as over a million viewers got to watch his versatile percussive skills (outside of the drums) on the marimba and cajon.
Closing Thoughts
Casey Cooper, along with the vast number of talents on Youtube, are unbelievably dedicated to their craft - they make up a big and prominent group of youths online that are highly entertaining to watch and they also provide their audiences with renewed appreciation for their respective art or discipline.
I genuinely enjoy discovering individuals like Casey because they're remarkable - these artistes push the boundaries of what people once thought might have been impossible and they set new standards for their fellow performers to aspire to.
